The International Foundation for Ewha Womans University held its 39th Annual Board Meeting, November 7-8, 2008, at the Hilton Bellevue Hotel, Washington.

The Board meeting was held along with the 7th annual meeting of Ewha Womans University Alumnae Association of North America on November 6-9, 2008. Due to the warm hospitality of the Washington State Alumnae Chapter of Ewha Womans University, both meetings were successful!

Present were 20 Board members and 3 Honorary Board members. From Korea, Dr. Bae Yong Lee, President of Ewha Womans University, Dr. Myung Sun Lee, Associate Dean of Office of University Relations and Development, Mrs. Min Young Han, Secretary of the President’s Office, and Ms. Anna Suh, Program Manager at the Office of Global Affairs at Ewha attended our board meeting.

The President’s Report was presented by Bishop Anne B. Sherer on behalf of President Bishop Sharon Z. Rader. The Annual Report from Ewha University was presented by the University President, Dr. Bae Yong Lee, and the Treasurer’s report was read by Dr. Bumsun Lee. Important issues and main points discussed in the meeting:

1. Two new board members were nominated: Dr. Hwain Chang Lee (NJ) and Mrs. Jung Jin Kim El-Mallawany, M.D.
2. Ewha University established two new graduate schools, in law and TESOL.
3. Contributions for the May Day Fund 2008 were record setting.
4. The 2009 Administration budget increased by 2.8%
5. Investment performances for 2008 were reviewed.
6. Unfortunately, due to current market conditions, it has been decided that there will be no individual funds available for scholarship awards for the year 2009.
7. However, it has been decided that 40 Foundation Scholarships will be awarded instead.
8. The Appenzeller Scholarships in the US will not be awarded in 2009.
9. Bishop Rader will name the 40th Anniversary celebration committee
